Reverse search techniques- Inquiring with companies who call you and checking with staff.

When all you have is a telephone number, and you’d like to discover more information about the name and/or address to which it is associated, there are many different techniques that you can employ to ensure a greater level of success.

If you have no idea whose number is on your call log, you may cshoose to call the number back and find out who picks up the phone. If it’s a company where you have an account, typically you can tell them that you have an account with them but you don’t know why someone called. Make sure to call during regular daytime hours of the number you are calling. Use the area code to find out the time zone of the caller, and then place the call between the hours of 10am and 5pm. If you call at any other time, in the case of a small business, it may mean that they aren’t open and nobody will pick up the phone.

If someone answers the phone, kindly and politely ask where you have called and explain why you are inquiring. You may just find that you get the most done this way. The individual or staff member will likely be able to provide you with the information you need. Often times, you can just share your phone number, and they can pull up your account and review why a representative from the company would have called you (change of account status, issue with a transaction, etc…).

If you can’t find who placed the call (e.g. if there’s no answer), the first thing that you can do is to find a good, reputable reverse telephone search website online that you can use to find out what information is listed along with the telephone number. However, in the case of some businesses, unlisted numbers, numbers with extensions, and many cellular telephone numbers, this first step isn’t always successful.

This would be the time that you begin to employ more reverse telephone search techniques.

In the case of cellular phone numbers, you may wish to employ a reverse cell phone number search site. This may cost a bit of money (about $15 per report is usually fair for a good premium service) because it requires the searching of many different directories – many of which require a membership or paid account for access. It is a time consuming, costly task that is much better accomplished by such a service.
